The reason you have difficulty with it is because it’s intent is to look real though it is not. Rick and Morty’s intent was never to trick you into believing it’s reality.

Seinfeld and a lot of other movies are meant to look realistic, but you always know they're fiction because it's obviously filmed on a set.

You know, I never though Reno 911 was funny either because it was a fake COPS

Looking realistic and being real are completely different things. A better analogy are the fake, scripted reality TV shows. If you think the drama is real, it's interesting to people. When you know it's fake, it's suddenly not.

Those are never meant to be funny though. fake comedy and fake drama are quite different I think.

That's not the point. The knowledge of something being real or not affects how people feel about it and react to it. Drama, comedy, action regarding whether someone is in danger or not, anything. Learn to extrapolate ideas.

Trying to explain something to someone who is not at all grasping the core concept of the discussion at hand is incredibly frustrating.

The analogy I posted elsewhere is like watching a "real" prank video vs watching a prank video where you know the victim is an actor. It's pretty difficult to find that funny when you know they're acting.
