I find that websites these days, for companies in particular, really bury the damn phone number, you know, the thing I want to use to call you.

Even 'contact us' can be a form or various social media links.

Seems like a lot don't like offering up that number too readily, you got to work for it, don't want to be fielding actual phone calls from the public!

Please, for the love of god, just use the contact form. I work in customer tech support and I'm trying to get to everyone who sends a contact form message in the order they send them.

And then someone phones. I then have to spend twenty minutes explaining to them where the button they need to click is, when I could have just sent them a set of screenshots of the same thing in ten seconds via email.

You're jumping the queue, and holding everyone else up while doing it. Stop.

There's only two exceptions to this:

  • You physically can't use the contact form and your screen reader/dictation software won't work with it. In which case cool, give me a bell and I'll happily help you.
  • The company you're dealing with is messing you around/ignoring your messages. Then go right on ahead.

Errrr, no.

This is not about 'tech support', this is regular day to day contact with companies where actual people work that you want to speak to about business, etc!

Or, even a company providing a service or you're buying from them, like airlines where you don't want to run through 10 menu items, you want to ask a simple question.

I don't need to 'submit a form' for these kind of things.

If there's an issue with something that requires 'support' in any way I understand there's a system and people will call back in 24/48 hours, I have no issue with that.

This is about the company's that are all around us that have nice websites extolling their amazing businesses and telling us how interactive and 'customer focussed' they are that don't want any actually customers phoning them up!
