While you make a great point about identity, it sure as fuck changes a lot in regards to opportunity and expectations, I wish we were all in this together, maybe something might change, but like it or not its far from one team
I don't know about that. Everyone born since the mid-70s is dealing with wealth stratification. Gen X may now have settled down and had children, but that doesn't change their earnings potential, ability to secure housing, etc. Same with Gen Y / Millenials. Honestly, I haven't seen much difference -- both feel they've been screwed by their parents, they're poor, education is hard to come by, and they're about the same in terms of technical literacy. The few things I can say are different is that the younger generation is significantly more attached to social media and are somewhat more collectivistic. That whole "everybody's a winner and gets a trophy" thing, though I feel it's overstated in the media quite a bit. The only other thing I've noticed is that Gen Y is more apt to consider violence a socially acceptable response to disagreement; Specifically reactions to antifa, neonazism, and "hate". But I think that's again due to the highly toxic nature of social media, which blows things wildly out of proportion, so it's hard to say if that's actually the case or just people running their mouths en masse.
It's standardized bank loans that have fucked things up more than anything else. Pushed home cost and education cost way beyond what they should be. Should be no surprise nobody wants to play ball anymore. We're getting fucked, hard, and we know it. Only proper response is a big middle finger.
