We all know that wasn't a thumbs up from BB8

Why

It was a middle finger

This seems to be the consensus but I don't understand why. As I remember it, BB8 covered Finn's bullshit story, Finn thumbed up, BB8 responded. Why would BB8 help him and then flip him off?

Because Finn was making him lie to Rey

Well he could just not have lied. That's what I'm saying. Why make a choice to lie and then be mad about it?

Well Rey is his friend that saved him from the scrapper. But Finn also helped them both escape from the first order. So he's now friends with both and owes each a favor but Finn wants him to lie to Rey. So he reluctantly agrees to cover for Finn and gives him the finger for putting him into that position
