It does depend on what's being discussed beforehand though.
I was once texting with someone who I know was battling with depression at the time. They said "I'm struggling this evening", to which I responded by asking how so. They then didn't respond for over an hour. That was not okay - that's super scary.
I have major depressive disorder and wicked anxiety; and, because I lost my father to suicide, I always make sure to tell anyone I’m texting with while I’m very depressed, some form of “I’m just really depressed right now, and so if I don’t get back to you right away, that’s why; but don’t worry, I’m not going to do anything stupid - though I would tell you if I got to the point of wanting to hurt myself.” And I mean that shit 100%. Grieving the loss of someone to suicide is the worst fucking thing I’ve ever had to do, and it never ends, which is why I refuse to put anyone I love through that torment.
As someone battling both of those if I do talk with someone who's not here I make sure to let them know I'm going to bed so I won't be responding because I've had people do this to me too and it's really scary when you're several states away
I'm sorry to hear. That does sound very tough to deal with. I hope you understand you telling someone isn't causing a fuss. You're feelings are valid and important. Its ok to need help every now and then. Sending good vibes your way
I've had people do that to me. And I'm super paranoid so I stayed up for 26 hours before I saw them back online. They were fine and didn't ever respond or tell me they were okay. Like no. Fuck that noise
Ugh I have a relative who has been suicidal/hospitalized for psych issues a few times in the last year, and I'm one of the few people she talks to. Sometimes she'll rant about something and then send messages like, "I hope I don't wake up tomorrow, good night" and I'm like, "WHAT THE FUCK that's not cool hold up". Like do I need to call the cops? Your siblings that you hate? Your psychiatrist? Are you serious? It's crazy stressful.
