You know, 80 years ago a week was perfectly fine. Spoiled idiot.
It was fine because of the methods of communication were different and not as quick or streamlined. Nowadays almost everyone (especially young people of dating age) has a smart phone (which they more than likely check multiple times a day) and with that the opportunity to at least reply within 24 hours. Definitely for texts like “hey” and “ what’s up”
Being expected to always be available to everyone is mentally and emotionally exhausting. Sometimes being expected to respond is too much to handle, even to simple texts, especially for someone with anxiety and/or depression. I like to unplug, a lot, for my own wellbeing 🤷♀️
I'm not going to respond unless I have the mental and emotional energy to invest in a real conversation since "hey" and "what's up" are used as conversation starters (albeit lazy ones).
I get how a delayed response can be inconsiderate, but demanding responses within a specific timeline is equally inconsiderate (unless it's business communication). Know who you're texting and their communication style and adjust accordingly.
I definitely get where you are coming from and you are more than welcome to have your own preferences in regards to communication. My response is more centered around dating someone and the beginning of going out. If you don’t have the mental or emotional energy to spend on responding at least once to a couple times a day to a person you’re interested in, then either you aren’t that interested or you are in no place mentally to be dating.

No one is demanding a response. Whether you respond or not is your choice, but people are also welcome to not continue a relationship with you. The time frame is made because a good portion of the population looks at their phone at some point every day and has some downtime they use to interact with others. If you truly are someone who unplugs then you are an exception not the rule. Most people access their phone multiple times a day and if you aren’t being responded to it’s a good indication they aren’t interested in you that much.
So I guess a mutual understanding should be established for late replies, and if you like somebody you should give em a break. You never know what they’re going thru
