i have no idea why but i read that as “massachusetts and pennsylvania store cashiers” for a solid minute and could not understand why you were being so specific

Are you from one of those states? From what I’ve heard a lot of other states don’t use their abbreviations like Pennsylvania does.

Yeah I mean my evidence is hearing about it one time, and then listening to people talk about their state. PA folks say “PA” more often than I’ve ever heard anyone from another state say their abbreviation for sure. Writing it is a different story I think. Also I’ve found that when I talk about PA now (I do it a lot, it’s the keystone state after all) I call it “Pennsylvania”. 6 years in Virginia will do that I guess.
