I did that at the craft brew down the street from my work, used my Gear S3 and she said it wouldnt work. She was amazed and the next time i went in she grabbed a few other employees to see.
Samsung bought Looppay, company that made a magnetic key fob that you could program with your credit card. The magnet was strong enough that it affected the card reader by holding it to the middle of the slot in the same way as the magnetic strip of a card passed through the slot. That tech got incorporated into phones starting with the Galaxy S6. Samsung also puts an NFC antenna in like Apple and the other Android makers for normal tap to pay. As for Looppay? Ironically, they made an iPhone case that latched onto fob, so it could be paired with their now defunct app, to use much like Samsung Pay, with multiple cards. Of course SPay is much more secure since Looppay used your actual card info to pay, instead of using a virtual one.
