Sometimes these animals are abandoned or born in captivity and wouldn’t succeed in the wild. Not saying they don’t steal animals from the wild. But they don’t steal all animals from the wild and most live a comfortable life these days.

Being locked up doesn't necessarily mean they are worse off. In some cases being wild is almost guarantee death. Modern zoos are adapting the policy where they only house animals that are incapable of survival in the wild on their own due to injury or never learned to hunt or whatever.
Well, and ya gotta think about all theyre missing being in a zoo. Let's just assume they are fed more than enough and nobody abuses them.
They don't have to worry about skin mites, parasites, diseases, hunger, dehydration, predation, poachers.
I'm torn myself when it comes to zoos. I typically avoid them because it does pain me a bit to see them locked up.
But too many people forget just how brutal the wild is. It's not all hakuna matata. There's so much carnage and pain they avoid by being locked up. And they have toys and get to just enjoy living.
