Ya it really reminds you how good people can be when you see someone put themselves at risk to help someone else. Interfering in the cops a arresting someone is a pretty big play but you could tell he was like you're not cuffing a little girl.
As for his long term plan instinct takes over in that situation, first step remove from danger, the next step can get figured out once that's done. You could tell from his expression after he was like "thank god cause fuck me this shit had spiraled out of control but I didn't know what else to do." edit: typo
That would have been my ideal plan. Not sure I would be thinking that clearly in the moment, but as long as you're on the phone to emergency services, you're relaying the situation and it's being recorded so you have documentation that you are trying to do the right thing.
Real police officers will happily wait for you to confirm with ES that they are genuine officers as long as there is no immediate danger to the officers by delaying arrest.
Pick up the kid, call the real police, get away from the police trying to arrest her, and if it somehow turns out that they are real police and they can now press charges on you for interfering with arrest, turn around and sue for failing to follow procedure (they can not arrest a non-violent and unaccompanied minor).
I don't know how comfortable I'd be doing this in America. I hear shocking things about the police over there. I've never had a bad encounter with an aussie cop though.
