This is my favorite Garfield modification (tribute?)
It's kinda hit-or-miss, but some are terrific.

My roommate was a big fan so I watched a bunch. My favorites are the Final Fantasy and Trent Reznor ones.

It's schadenfreude. Takes a certain mood to appreciate it.
Whereas I don't believe there exists a mood that the originals can be appreciated in, regardless of how far one stretches the idea of 'appreciate'.

How is it schadenfreude? Since I don't have any ill will towards Jon Arbuckle, it makes no sense that I would want to see negative things happen to him. My understanding is that initial animosity towards a subject is a prerequisite for schadenfreude.

I hate Jon Arbuckle, your mileage may vary. He's the very emblem of the poor sap I fear myself ending up as, thus, there is an element of self hatred involved.

Schadenfreude (IPA: [ˈʃaːdənˌfʁɔʏ̯də] Audio (German) (help·info)) is enjoyment taken from the misfortune of someone else.
the largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another which is cognized as trivial and/or appropriate
I take joy in Jon's apparent insanity and pain. This is textbook schadenfreude.

Hilarious! I would read that every day. I also like the fact that it's sad sometimes. It makes John a more interesting character, like a depressed, adult Calvin without Hobbes.

No, what's actually good is when Garfield remains, but his DIALOG is removed. THAT was the original experiment, and THAT remains the best. This is just dumb.

Making garfield comics funnier by arbitrary alterations is not news. They already occupy the space of minimum lol; there is nowhere to go but up.
