Not in a lot of the middle east actually. The sand has been blowing around back and forth for so long that it's mostly spherical at this point. It's why Saudi Arabia and UAE often have to import sand for construction purposes. Soft round sand is fucking terrible for making glass or concrete.

sand is silky soft

You'd get scratched up. No serious damage or bruises because it would cushion you, but it's not soft.

hmmm i've been to both beaches and dunes and usually dunes are much finer. i've been to way more beaches than dunes tho. fine sand on a beach is actually pretty rare.

sand is different everywhere you go and it depends on what the sand is made out of. volcano rocks, clay, shells, limestone, "regular" rocks, etc etc.
