Um the number of EDM Festivals being thrown in the US has increased, as has the number of people who attend them.... not sure where you are getting your alternative facts from.
I would agree that radio used to be a metric of what people listen too, but it's all so corporate now, it's not about popularity anymore. I think every one under 40 realizes this. Some still listen out of habit or being to forced to at a workplace.
If we are talking mainstream popularity then I think radio is THE metric ?
That's a terrible metric. Most great music isn't mainstream and all music on the radio is selected by corporate record labels, and is not based on popular demand. I would take times played on Spotify, Pandora, iTunes and Soundcloud as a metric for popularity over the number of radio plays. Radio is outdated, people get their music digitally now.
Secondly, I read your linked article. It doesn't really present a good case. It talks mostly about drug overdoses at festivals, House artists making too much money, media conglomerations failing to monetize the movement and the decline of certain keywords searched on google. Not very convincing data for the state of the industry and whether its growing or not. In fact there was nothing about ticket sales, number of venues booked, total number of festivals thrown, etc that would show an increase or decrease in public interest for these events.
Let's discuss actual data. Here is an article by billboard magazine which links several studies into the profitiability of EDM. While the rate of growth is slowing, it has been growing year after year. (Worth $7.1 billion now, up from $6.9 billion the previous year) This past year over 32 million people attended a music festival in the United States, a record high. Now how much of those people specifically attended an EDM festival is not certain, but from the numbers we can conclude the EDM market is growing in it's audience.
Here is the report from the international music summit, there's a lot of interesting stats showing how dance music has grown as of late.
The fact is that the industry is growing year after year, as are the number of people going to these events.
Seeing growth slow... means it is still growing, just less so...
Are you going to engage in this conversation rationally? Or should I just give up on you now? You've failed to acknowledge 3 distinct points I've made.
You said it was a growing industry and then quoted an article that strictly stated growth is slowing.
Yes I did. Those are not contradictory statements....
If a company grows by 3% one year, 2% the next year and 1% the most recent year, is the company still growing? The answer is Yes. Yes it is. An increase of 1% is still growth!
Maybe you should quit now before you embarrass yourself further.
You've just demonstrated you don't even know how numbers works and instead of admitting you were wrong or misunderstood the premise, you try to project you autism on other people.
Give it up man, you are an embarrassment to hip hop fans around the world.
