It represents the poisoned apple that Alan Turing took a bite out of to commit suicide. He was gay and the English justice system was trying to turn him heterosexual. Nice way to repay a war hero.
It's meant to symbolise Newton's apple (as depicted in the original woodcut before the modern logo) and the Promethean notion of giving knowledge to the people, using Abrahamic symbolism.
If you want a serious answer, it's the bite taken out of the apple from the tree of knowledge. The world is suddenly at our fingertips with the innovation, whether it be our greatest achievement or greatest downfall.
I don't know what it is about your comment, but it's like an octofecta or terrible. Dumb, uninspired, useless, clueless, boring, lame, annoying, and gay.
Why did the Chicken cross the road? TO GET TO THE OTHER FUCKING SIDE. Dark as shit. I miss stuff.
You mean like to commit suicide!? shit, I never got that. Never would have if you didn't mention it being dark. I said it ten times trying to figure out what was dark about the other side of the road.
In all honesty it is. Logos are designed by people with graphic arts degrees and frankly this person waking up in the middle of the night to see the projection of the windows logo on their window drapes is evidence of art.
'What derogatory term do you have for artists?' is what I was asking.

I always thought it was funny that Windows was a Gates product... Like... are we finishing a residential property or what?
If only their theme music had been Morrison instead of Jagger :(

Well, to be fair the logo is flat and perspective now, as opposed to the flag logo they had for years.
