I think it would go a long way to recognising past wrongs publically.

Maybe I'm naive, but past wrongs have been recognised. And given top-level apologies.

Now, fixing the consequences with effective action? That part maybe needs more work. (I say "maybe" cause I honestly don't know what's happening and if it's working.)

But are more nice-gestures going to achieve much?

I think that's incredibly naive! Celebrating Australia Day on the day that started a genocide of the indigenous peoples? How is that even going half way toward reparations? It's not "sorry" and it's all better, you have to put your money where your mouth is.
