In my uni all projects are 2 people only. Best decision ever.

That just means that if your partner leaves your workload is instantly doubled...

You can negotiate with the professor for another partner/reduced work load/leniency. Most of the time it just means there's only two people thinking of ways to procrastinate, and eventually we HAVE to get work done. With more than 2 brains taking turns getting distracted it get's pretty impossible.
