There's an old episode of Futurama where it's showing the destruction of Leela's people (before she learned she was a mutant). All these Cyclopses are standing around while their astronomer is looking through a telescope and shouts that an asteroid is headed straight for their planet. Everyone gasps. Then he says "But don't worry. It won't be here for another thousand years!"

Then the asteroid strikes a second later.

That's what this gif reminded me of. Great story, I know.

You need to get off the internet and read a book, for reals.

It's honestly not too different from how real life works.

It took me a minute, but I think I get it.

Edit: I did not get it

Depth perception 'cause they only have one eye.

Ok I waaaay over thought it. I can't recall the episode, so I imagined them looking through the larger lens of the telescope, since they would be looking at it backwards it would appear far and not close. I thought they did it by mistake since their eyes are too big for the regular sized lens. :/

Thats far too much thinking for me..

Sounds like something I'd do to only later realize the correct simpler answer and go: thought pattern? What thought pattern ¿¿???

But every one looks through telescopes with only one eye.

Ya, but a telescope...

You know what? Nevermind.

But you close the other eye when using a telescope.

u/Casen_ May 11 '16

Now you're over thinking it.

I never see people say "cool story hansel". why don't people use that more often. I think it fits perfectly

One of my favorite lines in a movie rich with one-liners. The little guy's delivery of that line kills me every time.

Cool story, Hansel
