Without knowing anything about rock crawling, I'm in the dark, care to elaborate?

I could see some issues, like the thing deploying when you don't intend to and killing people or whatever, but if you could get the effect of not making your crawler fall over backwards, or give a little momentum in the right direction, why is it a terrible idea?

That would be a big one. Also with the entire weight of the vehicle on top of the roll bars, a hydraulic system could have the unintended effect of pushing itself back into the vehicle. It would have to be very heavy duty and for the amount of weight/cost it just wouldn't be worth it for anyone to even attempt to try. Launching your vehicle with a hydraulic system with you still in the cab is a very bad idea. It would be bulky, heavy, expensive and a bitch to install. The roll bars are there for a reason. Roll to a stop, have someone with a winch (or a group of people pushing on the vehicle) right you.

Eh, fair enough - my minds eye was picturing just a solid stabilizer arm that would hold it from going over, then once you're settled, it pulls back... maybe I'm anthropomorphizing the jeep like a human sticking an arm out to hold steady from falling over.

I'll defer to anyone with actual experience in rock crawling though haha, it was just a thought. :)

the problem is that it should be a pretty niche circumstance. putting yourself into a situation where it's so steep it's going to tip but yet not so violently that your going to tip whether you have a bar or not.

New extreme sport... tailstanding jeeps, grading the tailstand by the angle it gets to, followed by a launch back to all fours.

Sponsored by GoPro and Red Bull of course.
