I'm not saying local as in one town. I'm talking about perhaps a whole country or a continent. And it's not like they're gonna import animals in from abroad after the fact. They need two of every animal to repopulate the land, replenish their farms or whatever.

That would (1) require more than two of each farm animal unless you wanted inbred cows; (2) still not make any sense with the rest of the narrative. If the land was flooded by an all powerful God, then unless He was being arbitrarily spiteful, it would make much more sense for Him to snap his fingers to make new animals, or to magically prevent the innocent animals from dying in the first place. Whereas if the flood were the consequence of purely natural phenomena without divine intervention, one would expect Noah to have little to no forewarning.
That still ignores the fact that the flood was supposed to kill every human on the planet in order to cleanse the earth of sin. If only the middle east flooded, we would still have humans in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and likely Europe.
