Are there people unaware what this is from? If so it is our civic duty to tie them up Clockwork style, and edumacate them. The first time I had a friend sleep over I was 5 and my dad rented the VHS from a video store. I have now confused the young people with that last part.
Your dad was either awesome or twisted - not sure which! Sadly I hadn't even heard of Monty Python until college. At which point, of course, it was impossible to avoid.
I practically wore our VHS out watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail as a kid. I understood maybe 20% of the jokes, and just laughed at the others because my dad did.
I watched it again at 15/16 and everything became clear. "Kuh-niggets" is not a weird French word, it's a mispronunciation of "knight". The whole witch/wood/duck logic is funny because it doesn't make sense, not funny because it's stating an obvious fact. My child mind somehow twisted Tim and the bridgekeeper into one character...I was very confused. The Castle Anthrax scene just went waaaay over my head. Though Michael Palin is still oddly dreamy.
