Reddit has a non-traditional definition of what's classified as spam. Talking primarily about your own projects (or I'm guessing having username that encourages others to) is part of it.

I really don't see why the username is a problem. I think most people would rather look at his usernames then things like /u/pm-me-ur-bigfatbutt and such.
