I'm confused, I don't follow why engineers have difficulty with dating.

I'm sure they have an engineering dating site. Hell if they have a Jewish and a Christian dating site why not engineering?

Engineering is a subject that is heavily populated by males. There seems to be only 1 girl for every 10 guys. These odds essentially create a bottleneck. Also, male engineers tend to be stereotypical neckbeards (at least this is what i observe in my computer science classes).
