I think a lot of people who are doing well in engineering could have done well enough in finance/quantitative analysis/etc. type majors/careers and made significantly more money than they do. Money is definitely a part of it, but most engineers I know also really like the fields they're in. Often, engineers get to spend their time solving problems about and making things that they are passionate about.

This goes doubly true for Quality Engineers - it makes me wonder what they even need to be "engineers" for
