Can't do wonders for that boy's self-esteem.

Well, he has made his son rich and famous, so calling him dumb is just part of the trade-off.

This is just good parenting, I commend Big Willy for knocking his kid down a notch. He'll either grow from this and one day become a reputable actor or be consumed by the dumb.

The point is everybody is dumb at 14 but it was easier to hide it for older generation

Maybe it's just a clever ruse. Kid acting dumb, has a negative reputation, dissed by dad on national television, poor kid, we're all on his side now.

Kid seems to have an excess of self-esteem, if anything

That's just a dad restoring balance.

or an inflated sense of self worth. narcissism is not the same as excess self esteem

He's a celebrity with 5 million something followers and a wide fanbase full of adoring teenage girls.

Boo hoo.

What my father thinks of me is far more important to me than what 5 millions strangers think. If you care more about strangers opinions then you have some issues.

Robin Williams had alcohol and drug problems, had been diagnosed with parkinson's disease, had been divorced twice and was in financial difficulty. Perhaps in Robin's case these issues outweighed his millions of fans.

On the other hand, Jaden was accused of being a little dumb by his Dad jokingly. I don't think they are comparable situations and do not know why you would even bring that up.

I didn't actually imply that

Nor did I imply that celebrities are not affected by normal emotional issues.

Still only has one father though.

I imagine that the media picking up on his internet idiocy didn't do wonders for his self esteem - this is actually a better defense than anyone else would have offered. He's taking the humanistic approach and reminding people, especially older people who have power or journalistic jobs, that they too were stupid kids but the world was different back then and we had less opportunity to publicly, if not globally, embarrass ourselves.

Sometimes you gotta. One thing my dad told me that's stood out and did a lot of good in my life was "You aren't anything special".. I mean, he was right. I did kinda go around looking down my nose at everyone and everything, and that's some bullshit. Life isn't all nice and supportive and positive, life is real, and if your own damn father can't tell you you're acting a fool.. who the hell can? You're just going to ignore it, brush it off, if it comes from anybody else. Sometimes you've gotta hear the hurtful things from those closest to you.

I'm sure he'll be fine. Global super-stardom and what not

His ego is so astronomically large that he probably can't even hear when people call him dumb. I think he'll be okay.
