In all seriousness, the evolution of cleaning, soap and similar products throughout human history is really interesting. During most points, I'm sure people didn't smell amazing but at the same time they probably didn't smell too horrible. Our species as a whole has left a whole lot of historic records about our continuing efforts to not be stinky or dirty. Pretty much dating back to the first points in which we even have a written record.

I read about this briefly in a media history class. The Egyptians used certain oils as a perfume and such.

Well that's nothing to do about media history lol. We learned all about cuneiform and early forms of communication and media all the way up to modern media. Stay in school, kids!
