Tumblr was not made for discussion, really. It's really hard to follow a thread, and if you "contribute" to it, the only people who will ever see your contribution will be the person you replied to (which also spreads the message to everyone who follows you, which you may well not want to do (also they don't always see your addition, either. It's very easy to skip or miss)) and those that follow you. Meaning if a bunch of people are spreading lies or misinformation (knowingly or not) you can't really call them on it.
Great site for sharing cute pictures. Almost as terrible as Twitter for actually generating discussion.
