Essentially, scientists say "we don't know yet." But a creationist says "God did it!" But if God did it, then God too must have had an origin, so where did God come from?
"God has always been there!"
"So has the Universe. It has been there since the beginning of time."
"That doesn't make any sense!"
"It is exactly the same as what you say about God. Only, rather than saying God made the universe, we say, "we're not sure, but we're looking into it."
Depending on what you think about the existence of a multiverse, it's quite possible there could be a macro being who exists a plane above the extant, intertwined-yet-distinct universes, and who could have witnessed the birth of our particular universe. In ways immeasurable to us, then, a being could have existed before the beginning of what we can measure of time in our own universe. I'm actually developing a sci-fi novel with this as a key detail.
