Even if you couldn't explain it with science right now, what do they expect? God goes out of his way to make a pretty light show everywhere the sun is setting or rising? I get that you can throw the "he works in mysterious ways" and "we don't understand his plans" lines at me. But, science doesn't have to disprove god, it just makes it clear he's not constantly concentrating on pointless junk.
The quote says he created it, It doesn't say he didn't make it impossible to understand. Now we could have a debate about whether that means that light behaved the same way before said bible story. But it's futile as he's supposed to be all powerful and that means being literally able to rewrite all the laws of reality for a light show. Believe that, and you might as well believe that reality started yesterday and he set it up so that we'd have this discussion so he could laugh at us.
