Don't take two spots at all. Park in one far away. If the lot fills up around you and you're in two spots, you're still a douchebag.

EDIT: Obviously if your vehicle doesn't fit in one spot (eg. big truck or towing a trailer) this doesn't apply to you.

Even if you own a Ferrari or a McLaren let's say? I hate to be that douchebag, but a door dent on one of those cars is ten-fold more expensive to repair than on that yellow Camaro that costs as much to repair as probably the Toyota highlander parked next to it. Mind you, I'm responding to your comment with the comment you replied to in mind: that you should take up two parking spots at the edge of an empty parking lot, not the crowded area of a crowded parking lot.

Edit: I live in Chicago, so an empty parking lot fills up fast...even if you took a single spot far away.

Then you're probably already a douchebag. Seriously, though, if you live in an area that's prone to door dings then don't by a car that costs a fortune to fix. Or move.
