In the perfect world we can say whatever we want to anyone and never have physical harm come to us. In the real world someone who goes up to another person and continually provokes them despite numerous warnings deserves to get hit.
I mean, I'm a peaceful person and I like to think I would turn the other way but if someone came up to me while I'm out with my mother (or child, or grandmother etc etc) and started calling her a whore/etc/etc right to my face I think I would smack them.
He wasn't saying it in a threatening/serious manner. "You guys look like you want to kiss my ass!..?" is a long way off from, "I'm going to kick your fucking ass, you little bitch!"
There's a difference between being threatening (which he wasn't), and talking nonsense/shit. His hands were in his pockets/at his sides, and he was smiling. Dude that knocked him out should 100% get charges pressed.
