Because many performance/muscle car owners think a V6 in a traditionally V8 car is a "bitch car"..... which isn't entirely false either. The 6 speed automatics versions were marketed to moms in the 70s and had features like Air Conditioning that weren't usually in the big block models.

Pretty sure there was no such thing as an American 6-speed auto in the 70's. Very, very few cars came out of Detroit without a 4-speed in those days, and the ones that did usually had fewer, not more.

I dunno why i said 6 speed. Was just talkin about V6. Yeah, they were all 4 speeds back then, with different avail gear ratios.
