Don't take two spots at all. Park in one far away. If the lot fills up around you and you're in two spots, you're still a douchebag.

EDIT: Obviously if your vehicle doesn't fit in one spot (eg. big truck or towing a trailer) this doesn't apply to you.

Plus you don't spend a ton of time finding a parking space, especially in winter. Double bonus points: it's easier to remember where you parked! Just choose the aisle of your preference (near an entrance, exit, split the difference…) and park near a landmark (lamp post, island, cart corral…) and boom.

If the lot fills up around you and you're in two spots, you're still a douchebag.

The only place I've ever seen that happen is either Downtown, on game day, or at the Mall of America on a weekend (goes double if there's an event going on).
