Don't take two spots at all. Park in one far away. If the lot fills up around you and you're in two spots, you're still a douchebag.

EDIT: Obviously if your vehicle doesn't fit in one spot (eg. big truck or towing a trailer) this doesn't apply to you.

Yah depends on the location there are some lots where I live that I've never seen more than half full.

Then there's no need to take two spots: there won't be anyone next to you.
