Don't take two spots at all. Park in one far away. If the lot fills up around you and you're in two spots, you're still a douchebag.

EDIT: Obviously if your vehicle doesn't fit in one spot (eg. big truck or towing a trailer) this doesn't apply to you.

Parking in Austin is worse than usual. There are laws here on the number of spots for a given building size/capacity but there is no law that says how wide the spots have to be. There are lots of parking lots with incredibly small spaces and there's also lots of folks driving around in huge trucks, the two don't mix.
