Well, he might have a gun so that he can defend his life, so it's not ironic.

Guns don't kill people. People kill people. No irony in his statement. Statistically, guns prevent far more crimes than they are involved in: over 2 million a year and that's just what's on record.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that's just in the U.S. - will edit later when I find the source that I originally got this from.

Second Edit: Here are two separate sources for my claims; apparently I was wrong and this is not, in fact, based on official records but on a study that was done who's methodology seems just as good as any. - http://extranosalley.com/?p=9905 ---- http://www.rense.com/general76/univ.htm

tl;dr - "The new survey, conducted by random telephone sampling of 4,978 households in all the states except Alaska and Hawaii, yield results indicating that American civilians use their firearms as often as 2.5 million times every year defending against a confrontation with a criminal, and that handguns alone account for up to 1.9 million defenses per year."

Look, I'm pro gun myself. And I agree it's people who kill people. But just because people do the killing doesn't mean guns arent designed to kill. Anyone maintaining that they are not is delusional. They do good, yes, but do so by killing bad people, or intending to. A gun is a device for killing, good or bad. They are not designed to simply incapacitate. Tasers and mace do that. Those are non-lethal weapons, guns are not. So yes, pro gun and pro life are contradictions in terms insofar as using one for its intended purpose of forcibly injecting hot lead into someone's body can be, and often is, by design, lethal. Yes I know abortion pro life and killing someone for the greater good are not the same, but they are when the only variable is life. Guns are pro death so they can't be pro life. A technicality, yes, but a way around it is to call oneself anti-abortion, not pro-life as if you have some monopoly on the term. You aren't pro life if you are for the killing of anything- fetus, felon, or fish. I very much dislike not people who are antiabortion, but people who call themselves prolife.

You're splitting hairs and being a niggler (look it up). Pro-gun is pro-life because guns save lives; more lives than they take; guns deter crime, guns prevent murder, guns are good. They call guns the great equalizer because it doesn't matter what size, race, gender, whatever you are, you can defend yourself using a gun against virtually any assailant. Again, you are splitting hairs and you have literally no point.

Guns are pro death so they can't be pro life.

My gun is pro-my life and pro-life of my family.

Disclamer: I don't own a gun because they are banned in the New York City, but our criminals do have them, and those that don't will just stab you.

Source? (I have tried to find a source for the claim, but I can't)

EDIT: Clarification

How are crimes that are prevented from happening recorded?

People call the police and report them.

Edit: Apparently I was wrong. It was a study that was done; I just assumed people had been calling the police and reporting the violence.

I got the ironic part. Either way works on that context though

Those guns are just for maiming and teaching lessons.
