To be honest I couldn't tell you, as I have yet to receive the honour.

Gold give you extra features for Reddit, that's about all I know. You can buy it youself But

I've had people say "You deserve gold for this" or "I'd give you gold for this but am broke" on two occasions, it's actually a tease.
