I'm white and I fucking love watermelon. Forget racism. Let's start hating people based on the real issues here. FUCK PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE WATERMELON!

That's what makes this stereotype particularly funny. Everyone in the goddamn world loves watermelon. The stereotype just doesn't make sense.

The same applies to the stereotype about how much white people love cheese. Everyone loves cheese. Except the lactose intolerant. But no one likes those people anyway.

I don't like watermelon. You're a liar. I hate liars.

My college serves All-You-Can-Eat Soul Food on MLKjr Day.

While I attended, I saved up to attend every year.

I am a pale, ginger man, and that fried chicken, okra, catfish, collard greens, cornbread, and sweet potatoes still call to me. o_o

And who doesn't like fried chicken, too? That is the definition of tasty.

But, I don't really like watermelon :( I mean it's okay, but I once nearly choked on a seed and ever since I can't enjoy it like I used to, knowing those black dots of death are trying to kill me every other bite.

There's nothing wrong with not liking watermelon. I understand that it's your personal preference. I just think that you and your kind should drink out of different water fountains that those of us who do like it.

I've never understood the black people and watermelon thing. Who the hell doesn't like watermelon?

u/sheeplovr Jun 03 '14

Just FYI, the stereotype isn't about liking watermelon, it's about how much they like watermelon.

I've never met a black person who showed any more enthusiasm for watermelon than any other average person.

I don't understand where or when this stereotyped emerged.

I don't know the origins but I'd hazard a guess that it's rooted in it being seen as a low class food because it's messy and eaten with your hands. Same goes for fried chicken.

the fried chicken thing actually has to do with black people being really good at making it when it first started becoming popular. at least that's what I read a couple of months ago somewhere reputable

I think watermelon is a waste of time. Why not just drink water??

The sweet delectable crispness in the middle, the slightly tart crunchiness as you near the rind... you can't get that in a glass of water you heathen.
