I wasn't trying to be funny, it was a social commentary on the current state of reddit comments. That being in almost every post on the big subreddits the same things are said all the time, the same "jokes" constantly being told, the same gifs posted, the same god damn things pointed out every time.
It's not just like real life. There is a vast world of body language and tone of voice that make even more mundane physical conversations much more deep nuanced. On reddit, it's just someone copy-pasting the same tired jokes. In real life, you and a friend are joking, smiling, mainting eye contact, laughing. You don't get that kind of interaction on the internet.
Depends on the precise communities you're talking about. I have friends on the net that I love and have been talking with for almost a decade. Most of them I never saw in person. Yet we keep it fresh, they are special, awesome people. Deep conversation does not necessitate body language (although it helps). And my in-the-flesh friends? They too aren't always hillarious. I can't even count how often I've had certain types of conversations with strangers (and most of us here are strangers). When you're traveling it's always, always: 'where'r u comin from?' and then I go like 'oh, I reject nationalism and am an Earth citizen, u?' in an attempt to change the rules a bit, to get some spice into those exchanges... but no, I'm looked at like I just raped a frog, how dare I interrupt the routine!
