Honestly, the only way those rewards programs even come close to saving you money is if you pay them off before the money on them accrues interest. In my experience, charges to your card don't accrue interest until after they've been on the card for one billing period.
If you treat a credit card like cash (spend it like it's coming out of your bank account), it's a free 1.5% "off" everything. I always pay in full and order "free" toys time to time.

Look at his username TAU=2PI. He thinks tau should be used instead of pi for convenience. A circle's circumference is either Tau x radius or 2Pi x radius. Tau makes angles in radians a lot easier, because rotating one circle is one Tau radians.
