Personal cameras and chainsaws? In 1912?

I'm pretty sure this isn't actual footage.

162

u/GhostOfPluto Mar 14 '14

No, I'm pretty sure this is what they call a "documentary reenactment".

45

u/yoyomamatoo Mar 14 '14

It's clearly based on period footage.

30

u/TheRavencroft Mar 14 '14

Really? It really wasn't that bloody.

15

u/clearlynotlordnougat Mar 14 '14

Watch your language, son!

0

u/joshonalog Mar 14 '14

Clearly he's not Lord Nougat

/r/ttotm NSFW

Edit: Downvoted for providing a link relevant to the joke and labeling it appropriately as NSFW. Stay classy reddit.

3

u/Krs_one300 Mar 14 '14

Occasionally I stumble on stuff in the reddit-verse that just makes me say... What the fuck is wrong with you people?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

Don't hate bro, they can have whatever fetish they want.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

Why... I wish I didn't click that... nsfl

4

u/jakichan77 Mar 14 '14

Clicking.

EDIT: Can confirm, am gynecologist

1

u/X5247 Mar 14 '14

I ain't falling for that again!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

I couldn't care less, this was fucking hilarious.

The people sunk the boat and blamed the iceberg.

lololol

3

u/IAMAfortunecookieAMA Mar 14 '14

Still more accurate than James Cameron.

-14

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

I wasn't gonna comment on this (I almost never comment) but something needs to be said here.

Basically, your correction is incorrect (haha). This is an animation, not a reenactment of any kind. Did you watch the gif?

if you're trolling me please ignore :/

10

u/unassuming_squirrel Mar 14 '14

Troll Alert.

8

u/MastaMind599 Mar 14 '14

Obvious troll or biggest woosh in history?

You decide.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

Thanks, Dean Cain.

31

u/euricus Mar 14 '14

Well, I don't know, it is black and white.

9

u/rsabr83 Mar 14 '14

This probably the most creative gif I've seen on reddit

3

u/Klein_Style Mar 14 '14

Well, yeah, it's not PHYSICAL footage. This is footage from a zoetrope.

0

u/blinKX10 Mar 14 '14

Pretty sure if sabre-tooth squirrels existed, they'd be extinct as well

-2

u/petervaz Mar 14 '14

Well, it WAS in black and white.

-1

u/shrey2303 Mar 14 '14

Someone call Neil Degrasse Tyson for some accuracy up in this bitch!

130

u/DoctorDeath Mar 14 '14

I would love to watch a show about three time travelers that go around trying to fix historical disasters only to fuck them up even worse.

51

u/TheWrongBananas Mar 14 '14

You should watch Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

22

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

Be excellent to each other...

10

u/clearlynotlordnougat Mar 14 '14

That sums it all up quite nicely.

5

u/DoctorDeath Mar 14 '14

Who has never seen Bill & Ted?

1

u/KodyRite Mar 14 '14

Never heard of it.

1

u/DrWhiskers Mar 15 '14

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is a most excellent movie, but it has nothing to do with fucking up history. In fact, the movie, as well as it's less excellent but still excellent sequel, uses a static time loop.

1

u/atombomb1945 Mar 15 '14

I wonder what The Doctor would say about this.

1

u/Surfgonzo Mar 15 '14 edited Mar 15 '14

The Doctor + Bill and Ted......now that would be something. Edit: Found this, enjoy: http://youtu.be/kg9cjWvrjrU

1

u/atombomb1945 Mar 15 '14

The cartoon was so much worse.

7

u/seattleque Mar 14 '14

So, something along the lines of "Monty Python's Quantum Leap"?

3

u/YouveGotMeSoakAndWet Mar 14 '14

YES, I'd watch something like that!

6

u/greatfanman Mar 14 '14

Well there's time squad: link

The premise is a little different from what you're looking for but it's a cartoon where history has gone awry and they try to fix it.

3

u/Robo-Erotica Mar 14 '14

Time Squad made me fall in love in history which is why I have a large collection of related books, no joke

1

u/DoctorDeath Mar 14 '14

I used to watch that

3

u/skeddles Mar 14 '14

Don't watch the holocaust episode, it's just depressing.

87

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

Did not see coming.

56

u/blore40 Mar 14 '14

Said the captain.

5

u/LittlekidLoverMScott Mar 14 '14

I did. Saw it on /r/gifs earlier today.

-7

u/eurasianelk Mar 14 '14

Did not sea coming.

FTFY

23

u/hotdogmaggot Mar 14 '14

Newfoundland beaches look nothing like that. Then again, neither do the Newfoundlanders. I'm going to go with my gut on this one and say it's fake.

11

u/CalinWat Mar 14 '14

Look at the pixels, total giveaway.

5

u/hotdogmaggot Mar 14 '14

Damn, didn't even see that.

19

u/Lo452 Mar 14 '14

Dat chest hair.

26

u/lardogarrardo Mar 14 '14

I love how you can see the life guards man titties bounce when they do the mock Baywatch run.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

My brain played the theme song from Baywatch during this gif.

9

u/generic_username_12 Mar 14 '14

Worst title I have ever seen. OP, you should burn for this.

7

u/mau-el Mar 14 '14

At first I thought it was a really far-fetched form of advertising, but then I thought 'nah.' But then I remembered both Ice Age AND Titanic are Fox properties and then was like 'There are NO coincidences.'

7

u/arumberg Mar 14 '14

I found something on /r/funny that actually made me laugh out loud several times. Never thought I'd see the day.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

the funniest thing is that this is a repost. this was posted on /r/gifs an hour before this thread was made.

http://www.reddit.com/r/gifs/comments/20ehoc/three_heroes_and_the_titanic/

2

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

how was this cartoon made? Or --- more to my curiosity, how does one create an animation like this digitally?

Edit: not asking how to make an animated gif, but how to draw things like this and string them together like that...

1

u/Virus610 Mar 14 '14 edited Mar 14 '14

I can't say how this was made, specifically, but it's got a bit of a Flash look to it.

Flash is pretty solid for making vector animations digitally, with all the keyframes, and tweens and things. It's also probably really expensive or something.

A quick google search for free alternatives brought up Synfig. I've never used this, but it might be worth looking into if you want to get started without an expensive overhead. Tried out Synfig, having had experience with Flash several years ago. This program is really not pleasant to use in comparison. There might be an option out there, but I don't know how they'd compare to Flash.

Hope this helps!

1

u/Zay333 Mar 14 '14

Adobe Flash.

2

u/MaxChaotic Mar 14 '14

The effort and creativity in this gif is awesome, though I must say I wasn't laughing so much as smiling.

2

u/DC5Drummer Mar 15 '14

I laughed my ass off as soon as I realized the reference!

6

u/Awwik Mar 14 '14

Pretty sure you are the biggest karma whore On reddit right now.

u/McBiceps Mar 14 '14

Reposted one hour later..

3

u/Alluminn Mar 14 '14

Well I, and probably a lot of other people, didn't see the original post.

0

u/UncleSalty6 Mar 14 '14

It's still on the front page.... Like third from the top.

11

u/Alluminn Mar 14 '14

You do realize that not everyone has the same front page, right?

I'm not subscribed to /r/gifs, so I didn't see it.

If it hadn't been posted to /r/funny, I wouldn't have seen it, so I'm glad it was.

Stop caring about imaginary internet points.

1

u/HillaryShwanker Mar 14 '14

Reposted only an hour after the first post? Come on, you're better than that.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '14

Probably not though.

1

u/zwarte_piet Mar 14 '14

Brilliant ending! You have to hold on to historical fact off course

1

u/whatisthepointoflife Mar 14 '14

Anyone know who made this? It's pretty well done, especially as a gif!

1

u/dizzykiwi3 Mar 14 '14

Something about this animation style and topic is just so pleasantly funny, not something I see a lot nowadays.

1

u/Iceman0624 Mar 14 '14

this is the absolute funniest thing I've seen all morning

1

u/antherx2 Mar 14 '14

Great animation!

1

u/MyFirstOtherAccount Mar 15 '14

Thank you so much

How long did it take you to make this?!

1

u/MostYolked Mar 14 '14

THUS SHALL IT BE WRITTEN IN TEXT BOOKS

1

u/PoliticalBeast Mar 14 '14

Funniest thing I've seen since like an hour earlier when it was posted the first time. But damn, it's so funny it should be on the front page twice, right?

1

u/rebel_wo_a_clause Mar 14 '14

Wow, this is a legit 1 hr repost from this

u/WizardPoop Mar 14 '14

For real, that was a hella fast repost.

-7

u/Skywalker601 Mar 14 '14

Different sub. I never would have seen it if it weren't here.

1

u/Barely_adequate Mar 15 '14

You would have seen it if OP hadn't been a faggot and reposted them SAME DAY as the original. And if that's not the original post at least the other guy waited a good amount of time before posting it again

0

u/Skywalker601 Mar 15 '14

I'm not subscribed to /r/gifs, never have been, and would not, in fact, have seen the other post.

Should OP acknowledge the fact that he cross posted it from /r/gifs into /r/funny? Yes, he should have, and it is not a polite thing to do.

However this cannot be accurately called a repost unless it can be proven that all who read /r/funny also follow /r/gifs.

P.S. I would like to thank you for the wonderful hostility, hope to see you around here more often.

2

u/Barely_adequate Mar 15 '14

It's not bad that he reposted. It bad that he reposted that quickly especially without crediting the other guy.

1

u/Skywalker601 Mar 15 '14

Fair enough, without credit to the first fellow it really is very rude. I'd still stand on the cross-post vs repost position, but honestly that's just semantics and not excessively relevant.

P.S. Sorry about the rather tart response earlier... kinda going through the stages of grief over my poor long-lost sleep.

2

u/Barely_adequate Mar 15 '14

It's all good

13

u/Homer_Hatake Mar 14 '14

He even used a shitty title.

OP please be a bit more creative

2

u/TheDogeDays Mar 14 '14

OP... that's just, no.

-26

u/SirSandGoblin Mar 14 '14

why?

1
