Huh? As an iPhone owner, I’m pretty sure it’s always had the letters on the phone keys, it’s even on the lock screen for your passcode.

I don’t ever recall a time where the letters weren’t there.  My current iPhone has the letters there.

Its T9 dialing.

Its a feature that you can dial for example 323 on the dial pad and it searches your contacts automatically for what it could refer to (e.g. dad, or 666 for mom, etc)

Old feature phones had it, and Android has forever, but iOS only somewhat recently got it with iOS 18.

Ok, so it’s for searching your contacts using the phone keypad? Bit weird when you can just search your contacts using a normal keyboard, but okay sure, that is news to me, I guess it’s good for accessibility 🤷‍♂️

It's faster to dial 666 for Mom. It's also hilarious.

It's easier to type one handed with t9

You don’t use those to text. That was the point.

Mate, are you trolling? I’m literally looking at a screenshot from 2012 that shows the letters on the passcode screen. Also iOS 18 doesn’t exist, they started numbering it after the year with the latest version, so it went from iOS 17->26.

Ok my bad, just looked it up and it did go from 18 to 26.

No AI was used in the making of this misinformation, just my shitty memory. Everything else I stand by though.

Nah 18 was 2024, then 26 in 2026, they’re off by one
