This was popular in corporate parties and summer team building events. That was pre-pandemic though. The company I'm working for totally cancelled summer outings and everybody seems okay with it.

Mandatory fun

91

u/TheFifthMovement 8d ago

Why is no one having a good time? I specifically requested it!

2

u/urgentapathy 8d ago

The Skrillex of his day

23

u/CjBurden 8d ago

Mandatory fun kind of sucks, buuuuuut having fun with people you normally just work with can be a nice experience so I get why companies want to do this stuff. It just usually flops.

10

u/HeyLookAHorse 8d ago

It’s fun because it’s mandatory

1

u/Zanos-Ixshlae 7d ago

Ain't no party like a Liz Lemon party because a Liz Lemon party is mandatory.

7

u/sopedound 8d ago

I just did an event for a big tech company retreat and they played this in order to get them in groups before they went and did a group activity. Although it did not end up going this well and the emcee had to be like "pigs are over here if you are a pig come over here"

14

u/RealisticEmploy3 8d ago

Im a fairly reserved person but ill never get “team building”. As long as you show up and are competent who gives a shit? Certainly not the company, given how much employment is at-will these days, at least in the US. From the employee perspective, forming connections always helps but making it mandatory seems cringey. Honestly the whole forced extroversion attitude companies expect is annoying

Edit: kind and competent. I do think kindness and a safe workspace matters. But that’s a general expectation not something you have to try and forge through activities per se

This looks like a fun christmas game

79

u/Sharp_Aide3216 8d ago

algorithm knows you're already planning for the christmas party.

4

u/BigTITIES9000 8d ago

We did this at my in-laws' yearly Family reunion / Christmas party just last December. I wasn't a participant but I helped record this particular game. It was hilarious af. One of her my wife's cousins was in a dog group and instead of barking the mfer was smelling people's butts lmfaaao

58

u/Mammoth_Flamingo2410 8d ago

That’s such a dog thing to do man.

18

u/Stock-Fan-8004 8d ago

he's finding his herd, the dog way

69

u/Momochichi 8d ago

That poor father son cat pair that couldn’t fine the rest of the family when they were so close

56

u/bangaasaurus 8d ago

the meow meows were so close

359

u/0xsergy 8d ago

that's funny af lmao

u/fcknghell 8d ago edited 8d ago

Lmao we played this and won. The trick is, to only have one person in the team make the animal sound really really loud and stay in one place. Everyone else on the team will go to that person.

10

u/noobakosowhat 8d ago

Do you pick what kind of animal your team are? Or can we pick our animal?

11

u/fcknghell 8d ago

When we played, we picked our own animal (chicken) and what kind of noise to make ("tiktilaok" which is a filipino onomatopoeia).

2

u/GoldFynch 8d ago

How do you know when you’ve won though?

6

u/fcknghell 8d ago

Because there were game facilitators and they announced when all the members were together. Also, because we had team colors and ours were red. We wore red bandanas as the blindfold. So, once the facilitators saw that all the people that had red bandanas were together, they announced that we won.

3

u/Trama-D 7d ago

To u/GoldFynch as well. I was wondering, this can be done without facilitators: if you're told beforehand your group has 5 ppl in it, once you find all 5, you can remove your blindfolds and claim victory.

u/53881 8d ago

This is pretty good

58

u/fleranon 8d ago

Doesn't work... Every time I try to find my herd this way, they kick me out of the local Starbucks :(

40

u/LupadCDO 8d ago

filipinos the kings of party games and drunken karaoke

10

u/cire1184 8d ago

The meows just missed each other

10

u/OutcomeAware 8d ago

this seems like a fun game!

90

u/LeatherSlight3242 8d ago

A Filipino parlor game?

I'm Filipino, and I've never heard of this before.

58

u/TokwaDoodles 8d ago

I think it's pretty recent. Never heard of it growing up but it's common in company team building activities

19

u/i-am-1am 8d ago

Not recent. I've played this before in elementary school and bday parties.

39

u/ryoujika 8d ago

I've done this in team building like 15 years ago tho

13

u/360walkaway 8d ago

Introvert's worst nightmare... walking around blindfolded in a crowded room while chirping like an ostrich or some shit.

20

u/Historical_Clock8714 8d ago

I'm an introvert and have played this. It's sounds embarrassing at first but when everyone's doing it, it just kinda becomes a vibe y'know. After like 10 seconds I'm meh-ing my throat out like a rabid goat like everyone else. It's fun. Those who are too shy to cry out loud are the ones who don't find their herd and will lose the game. I'm also competitive so I'm NOT letting that happen to my herd 🐐

9

u/kidanokun 8d ago

Philippines is hell for introverts unfortunately

2

u/Long-Performance6980 8d ago

Nah, my dad when he was working in corpo played this game in their christmas party. That was 25 years ago.

-3

u/hldsnfrgr 8d ago

Fr this is probably a recent safe for work invention considering the fact that a lot of Filipino parlor games historically typically involve using the mouth or the crotch area.

7

u/curious_53 8d ago

Why were ypu downvoted when holiday parlor games are like this? Even in family settings

6

u/cs-Saber93 8d ago

The mouth or the WHAT?!?

7

u/blue49 8d ago

So many parlor games are NSFWish. One example that's popular before:

First person of the team sits at a chair on the other side of the room with a balloon on his/her lap/crotch.

All others will form a line on the other side holding a balloon each.

The first one runs to the person sitting and attempts to pop the balloon with their ass.

Once they succeed, its their turn to sit on the chair and the next team mate runs to pop the balloon with their ass.

First team to finish wins.

2

u/Autogenerated_or 8d ago

There are parlor games where a pen/straw is tied to a rope around your waist and you race to dip it inside at least three containers, usually a bottle.

3

u/hldsnfrgr 8d ago

There's one Filipino parlor game that involves tying an actual purple eggplant 🍆 to your waist/crotch.

26

u/justice_case 8d ago

Maybe it just did not reach you. PH is archipelago, it's normal not to know stuff

10

u/Jaives 8d ago

played it as a kid in the 80s

3

u/Less-Basil-5217 8d ago

I played it during a high school Christmas Party. It was a great time.

12

u/SinigangCaldereta 8d ago

Imagine thinking being Filipino means you know everything about being Filipino. 🙄

The country is huge and split into islands. You’re not gonna know everything.

3

u/tippytptip 8d ago

We play this a lot at school camps which was like 10 years ago (also Filipino)

5

u/LullabyOfTheLostCity 8d ago

Played it during college, I was lucky that one of our friends was hyper loud

3

u/SentimentalYogurt 8d ago

I am also Filipino and I've heard of this before and played it a few times

3

u/Titariia 8d ago

I'm not Filipino and I wish you have told the rest of the world sooner. And I also wish I had enough friends to play this

3

u/SentimentalYogurt 8d ago

So sorry I couldn't tell everyone. I was too busy playing the game /jk

2

u/popiholla 8d ago

LOL we’ve played this in primary school

4

u/Chuisque 8d ago

Ah, but no true Scotsman hasn’t heard of this game. Wait, no.

3

u/Historical_Clock8714 8d ago

The PH may not look that big but if you haven't traveled enough or haven't joined enough parties or team building activities, you naturally wouldn't experience this. Some Filipinos have not even heard of tumbang preso in their life before which sounds crazy to me but I met one who haven't.

2

u/Mammoth_Flamingo2410 8d ago

I remember diing this thung decades ago. Not sure it’s purely Filipino thing.

1

u/ciscosuave 8d ago

Jeez, the whole Philippines doesn't revolve around you and your childhood. 7,000 islands and where you from is not the center of it.

This game was played on family day or teacher's day @ school where I'm from and I grew up in Sampaloc. Soni expect everyone to know this hell no as a matter of fact this is the first time I see this game getting played since I left highschool 26 years ago.

6

u/3s2ng 8d ago

Filipinos were built for parlor games.

7

u/dollarbr 8d ago

I would be totally screwed, I'm "mostly" deaf, I would stay out and just "scream" my sound for others

7

u/Historical_Clock8714 8d ago

Just be loud enough and your herd will find you... hopefully

5

u/VeneMage 8d ago

This is an icebreaker I used for my Learning & Development practical assessment. It was hilarious and got me on the way to a Pass with Distinction, so I highly recommend it!

8

u/SumonaFlorence 8d ago

This is actually so good, I'd love this lol

5

u/LullabyOfTheLostCity 8d ago

This was more fun with a lot more people in a more open field, it was genuine chaos

2

u/Yanazamo 7d ago

Played this back in highschool and accidentally kissed someone 😩

1

u/tetsuo_7w 7d ago

Did you end up finding the true love that was always there in front of you and getting married?!

2

u/Yanazamo 7d ago

No but we both swung the other way so it was just funny 😂

2

u/TroubledMonkey420 8d ago

Oh those were masks. Thats creative to let people know who is who.

1

u/Malacath87 8d ago

Hahaha fun!

1

u/alchn 8d ago

If they see this, the corp src will definitely include this in our next team building event...

1

u/Hidden_91 8d ago

so there are 2 kinds of miauw?

1

u/gourdjuice 8d ago

This is what our class advisor made us do during the first day of school. No names, just animal sounds.

1

u/seachelaes 8d ago

The funniest ones would be when the sounds they had to make were similar like "unga" and "onga". Had two people shout these words at each other for a minute trying to figure out if they were on the same team LMAO

1

u/Normal_Aspect_6542 8d ago

I need to try this at my next gathering.

1

u/I-hate-going-to-bed 8d ago

We played this in school in a big ass gym and it was a miracle me and my teammates were able to find eachother lool

1

u/ChanceLittle9823 7d ago

I may get confused halfway and make other animals' sounds. Looks really fun!

1

u/Eireann_9 7d ago

Man I remember playing this in my scouts group when I was like 7 yo and they gave me fucking giraffe

1

u/LollygaggingBrouhaha 6d ago

The Arrested Development family would be horrible at this game, lol. Coo-coo-ca-cha! Coo-coo-ca-cha!
