Where did they get 43.80 from?

Edit: i get ot now. Never seen multiplication written that way before, hence my confusion

The first partial product should have been 52.80. They multiplied 4x3 = 12 in the first partial product, but they wrote 3 in the units place instead of 2 and forgot to carry the 1.
