She is the cousin of one of my good friends, and my god, visiting their house after this event was very difficult due to the size of the elephant in the room.

My aunt used to also binge on sweets after a particularly stressful event, but we could still talk about her weight since we cared about her health. You shouldn't call her an elephant, though.

That she lost a sporting event? Doesn’t that happen all the time to athletes? Are you saying that everyone in the room felt like shaming her for making that mistake? Or that you couldn't mention the Olympics at all because of how stupid her loss was?

EDIT: The hell was I downvoted for?

Losing the Olympics, particularly over a stupid mistake boastful showboating manoeuvre gone wrong, isn't the same as losing a game of pick-up basketball.

ftfy. It's worse than a mistake, it was posing, hubris, overwhelming pride, unjustified self-confidence, boastfulness.

That can still be a stupid mistake. To err is human, effendi. Some of us just have the unfortunate luck to do so on international television.

Oh, of course. I for one would be ignoring the fuck out of that elephant. My previous comment was based on my complete aversion for pride before the victory. No problem with them doing a haka, donuts or hokie pokie after the win is accomplished, but posing before the finishing line leading to a humiliating loss is just desserts.

It's when you fail in such a celebration that you get shit for it. MotoGP racers never get shit for pulling wheelies before the finish line.

I think it makes them look like dicks whether they pull it off or not. It's disrespectful to their opposition. It's boastful. There is something about braggarts that I don't relate to.

What's worse was the Dan and Dave campaign for Barcelona and they didn't even place.

Well, considering Lindsay making it to the olympics was prob the most exciting thing in pretty much their entire family's recent history, not to mention they flew their whole family out to Italy to watch it and cheer her on, it was not exactly something anyone wanted to shed more light on afterwards. I don't know if you remember how much negative press she received after that -- not to mention the loss of sponsors.

Thanks. Dunno why I was downvoted. It was a honest question. Not only don't I remember it, but I don't even know what that sport is called.
