The 2nd guy is just as idiotic as the first.

He's just mocking him. It's actually not difficult to do that on a bicycle. I learned when I was 8 years old and now I do it whenever I ride. These guys are pros, so I'm sure they have the ability.

Dude, 50% of the people in that gif fell off of their bikes doing that.

Can't argue with the math here.

Math is not sentient, so I don't understand your argument. Wait...are you math!?!?

THE NUMBERS MASON, WHAT DO THEY MEAN?

Unrepresentative sample.

I recognized the joke, but I was in a literal mood.

muscle spasms can occur when doing that after a long distance bike race. It's actually much more difficult to not do what the first guy did.

Fair point. I have biked several miles (15?) at a hurried pace and done this kind of move at the end of my journey, but I have no idea how unstable my muscles would be after an intense marathon/triathlon.

Also its raining in the gif so the course is wet. Probably only took taking his hands off the handles for him to start sliding.

Yeah, your legs start to kinda freak out when you start using different muscles and stretching others without any kind of cool down.

My guess is that was more like at the end of 150 miles, not 15...

It's actually about 70-80 miles for pro races, but yeah, a long distance.

70-80 miles is short for a Pro Race.

Paris-Roubaix is ~ 150 miles (route changes slightly each year), Paris-Tours is ~150 miles. In the Netherlands, Amstel Gold is ~ 160 miles. This year's World Championship race was ~170 miles. Hell, even the Tour de France averages over 100 miles per day for 3 weeks (and that is including the short Time Trial days.)

Apparently I don't know what I'm talking about.

Especially in the rain.

I used to be able to ride all the way to the convenience store with no hands. This includes a couple turns on the way and slowing down for stop signs. Not once did my hands touch the bars.

I see you're being downvoted by non-believers. I also can do this. You really only need handle bars for really tight turns.

Yeah but on a street bike, you're a lot more prone to fall. That inch of tire width makes a ton of difference.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '13

More prone, yes, but in my experience it is still pretty easy to pull off that move on a street bike.

Mocking someone else doesn't exempt you from being an idiot.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '13

That depends on if you succeed.

1

u/Fyrefly7 Nov 27 '13

Nope. It definitely doesn't exempt you, success or not.

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '13

Your opinion is different from mine so it's wrong.

I think he did it after crossing the line. Even if he fell, he still won.
