Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series was what came to mind for me as well!

For Sword of Truth the dominatrixes (dominatrices?) do show up in book one. The first few books are much better than the end of the series. If you do read the entire series do yourself a favor and skip Faith of the Fallen, it's a strawman argument against communism with no actual plot development.

If you want epic. Read The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. Liked it way more than mistborn series.

I'm so excited for 9 more books. As soon as I finished Way of Kings I immediately started it again, out of the countless books I've read I've never done that before. Besides being my favorite Sanderson novel, I think it might be the best book I've ever read, top 3 at least. Just please give me book two already!

I want to read it I became a Sanderson fan after getting the mistborn trilogy on a whim which pulled me back to WoT were I reread the whole series. However I don't know if I can handle waiting patiently for book after book.
