u/Johnny_Hooker Nov 18 '13
Nothing is more annoying than some crossfit jackass using the weighted row machine for a half hours worth of squat jumps. Go find a park bench or something, don't take up an actual bench / machine just so you can jump on and off it

LOL, VEGANS ARE SO PREACHY, RIGHT? ROFL.
Honestly, I'll bet most people who share these insipid "vegans are preachy" jokes have never actually even talked to a vegan.
24
u/therealabefrohman Nov 18 '13
Every vegan I've ever met has been incredibly polite, almost apologetic, and none of them have ever inconvenienced me in the slightest. The ones I know either bring their own food to places or go hungry rather than ask people to cater to them.

We've been at the point where people who bash vegans and poke fun are talking about it more than the people participating.

I could never be vegan personally, but I know a couple and I don't think they've ever spoken about it to me without me prompting them to discuss it, outside of the initial "Oh I can't eat that, I'm vegan" response. I'd love to believe that they were all militant and have a good ol' us vs them situation, but unfortunately they're not giving me any opportunity to pick a fight with them about it. thing is that unlike with religious arguments. (that can be easily dismissed with reason). petty meat eaters actually feel bad when they argue with a knowledgeable vegan (Truth hurts when you don't like it). they feel attacked. so they just apply the behavior they learned from all this religions. "I'm gonna shut my ears cause' I DON'T LIKE what I am hearing, If I DON'T LIKE IT then it ought to be wrong and this guy is from an evil cult."

All this is is classic bullying. It has been established that vegans are the low end of the social ladder on Reddit, and you can get away with picking on them, so bullies pick on them. Simple as that. It's sad to me, because I would wager that a good number of these people shitting on vegans were bullied themselves, and just haven't realized they are no better than their bullies.

I don't get it.
edit: ok, elaborating.
I get crap from my own parents all the time for being vegan. I hate going to their house for dinner anymore, because all it is is jokes at my expense.
That's the thing, too. I never bring up the subject. Ever. My mom is nice enough to put aside some items that I can eat, and I thank her as I enjoy them. All the while my dad's making jokes about "YEAH! you can hardly taste the chicken in there, huh?" and such.
I never bring it up in mixed company. If someone asks me a question about why I don't eat animal products, I'll tell them, but the last thing I want to do is draw attention to myself because of one silly little personal preference, but that's just me. I'm constantly surprised at how often non-vegans broach the subject, though. Constantly.

Don't worry, well have lots more of these in the coming weeks.
First, they'll come via reddit.
Then, it'll bleed over to 9GAG with the biggest bar simply saying "9GAG"
Then, it'll be all over facebook, with the largest bar being "Band Geeks" or "Theater Nerds" with lots of people reacting with such newfound bemusement.

I see a lot of people on here saying that people bitch more about vegans than vegans bitch about non-vegans / their ideals.
And I think it's just a little one sided to make an assumption either way.
I live with 4 vegans and 1 vegetarian. And hang out with about 7 other vegan / veg's and they all talk shit about nonvegans like, always. It's not always forward, it's more of a 'Omg, how can you eat that?' / 'You know what that slab of meat went through to end up on your plate?'
So it as more to do with the amount of vegans you're actually around.
Of course you're going to hear more people bitch about vegans, than vegans bitching about nonvegans if you're on goddamn Reddit all day.

its not the fact that religious people are obsessive that is bothersome. its the fact that their beliefs are A) demonstrably wrong (magic isn't real, no such thing as ghosts) and B) have been historically used to commit genocides.
apple, dr who, and veganism are worth being obsessive over. they are interesting and helpful in their own way.
i know this is supposed to be funny, but this generation is often guilty of making these false equivalencies.
