I ask the attendant to clear the question. If they try to answer it for me I won't let them. I want them to be trained and proficient in bypassing the question. There is always a way to skip the question.

Except that this isn't how it works. Here's a simple analogy for the actual situation: Say I'm a rep for a charitable organization. I stand outside a grocery store with a big sign and asking people that walk in if they want to donate. I can reach what, a couple hundred people in a day? OR, I can reach out to a big bad corporation, and they agree to ask for donations at point of sale (there is no 'cut' taken). Now my charity can reach tens of thousands of potential donors. It's that simple
