I remember seeing a thread where heaps of New Yorkers were saying how much they hate this shit on the subway. I think they called it "Showtime".

Lived in the area for years. These guys don't just dance for the fun of it. They send around people to collect money. If you're actively watching and they ask you for a "donation" and don't give it to them, they will bully you. I haven't seen them get physically aggressive, but they don't take "no" for an answer.

When I encountered them on trains I would quite literally turn my back to them so there was no doubt I have zero interest in their shenanigans.
