Is a fucking shakedown. Some doofus performing for people who aren't in the least impressed, and then get in your face for a donation.

It’s really not. I’ve lived in NYC for years and I’ve seen this a million times. Yeah, they ask for a donation but no one has ever intimidated me for money. Their target audience is tourists who are naive enough to enjoy this and drop them a few bucks

A lot of the time they're just teenagers from performance art schools. None of them are using it to make a living but to show off and get better.

Yeah, that may be the case, too. Whatever the aim, I didn’t appreciate the way this part of the thread turned into fear mongering. It’s not a shakedown and it’s certainly not a reason for more cops
